Location:  5 miles northeast of Heber/Overgaard, Arizona

Percent contained:  20%

Size: 5,180 acres

Cause: Human Caused

Update: Good progress was made on the fire line Tuesday.  Ground crews completed a dozer-line around the perimeter of the fire, a step closer to containment and control.  Crews on the west flank focused on structure protection along the Navopache powerlines and Despain Ranch, reinforcing control lines and mitigating hotspots around infrastructure.  Water drops from air support were strategically placed to cool hotspots and reduce fire intensity, thus reducing the chance of spot fires across the fire line.

Today fire crews will continue to secure and reinforce the fire line concentrating on firefighter safety and increasing containment.

Weather: Conditions are expected to approach critical fire weather today with warm dry weather, highs in the low 90’s, sustained winds from 15 to 20 miles per hour, gusts to 25 miles per hour, and relative humidity dropping into the single digits.

Closures and Evacuations: The entire length of State Route 377 remains closed from Holbrook to State Route 277.

State Route 277 is now open, with reduced speed limits through the fire zone.  Motorists are advised to be alert to fire personnel and equipment in the fire area.

The evacuation order for residents of Despain Ranch has been lifted.
