Multiple Fires on the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests

Springerville, AZ—August 8, 2018 The Ranch Fire was reported on Tuesday, July 24, 2018. Located about 25 miles south of Winslow, Coconino County, Arizona on the Black Mesa Ranger District in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests. The lightning-caused fire is approximately 4,081 acres. Pockets of fuel within the fire perimeter continue to burn. It is being managed to attain the natural role of fire in the forest ecosystem. Crews will be using hand ignitions today on the south end of the fire, weather permitting. Fire managers hope to reach the projected acreage by this weekend. The total completed project area is estimated to be around 11,570 acres. Smoke will be visible if ignitions are successful.

The Hub Point Fire was reported on July 27, 2018. Situated two miles east of Pinedale, Navajo County, Arizona on the Lakeside Ranger District in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests. At about 2,882 acres, the fire crews have finished with major ignitions. In the next few days they may still be doing some containment line ignitions to clean up dead fuels. Smoke should be dissipating over the next day or so.

If heavy smoke is present, those who are more vulnerable should take precautions such as staying inside and avoiding prolonged outside activity. People should keep in mind that smoke impacts can change quickly.
