Bagnal Wildfire Update - Tuesday, July 30, 2019

Springerville, AZ., July 30, 2019 -- For Immediate Release. The lighting-caused Bagnal Wildfire was discovered July 26, 2019 and is burning on the Lakeside Ranger District of the Apache - Sitgreaves National Forests. The Wildfire started as a single snag and has now increased to 1850 acres burning in grass and ponderosa pine.

The wildfire is located one mile southwest of Show Low and bordered on the east by Forest Service road 140, on the north and west by FSR 136 & 300 to the south. Fire managers expect the Bagnal Wildfire to continue its growth even with the possibility of precipitation throughout the next few days.

Because the Bagnal Wildfire is reaching its preplanned perimeter, smoke is expected to lessen within the next few days. There is minimal fire behavior over the majority of the Bagnal Wildfire and it poses no danger to structures or other local infrastructure.  Showers and thunderstorms are likely through the end of the week and may influence the use of firing operations within the perimeter.

Visitor Information: If you are sensitive to smoke, visit the Arizona Department of Health Services website at: www.azdhs.gov/preparedness/epidemiology-disease-control/extreme-weather/index.php#wildfires-home for additional information regarding dangers of wildfire and prescribed burn smoke & wildfire preparedness.

  • Current Resources: Four engines, one dozer, and one 20-person crew
  • Current Size: About 1850 acres (see map)
  • Predicted Smoke Impacts: Smoke is expected to be visible from US Highways 260, 60, and US Hwy 77 near Show Low, AZ.
  • Recent and Current Operations: Current weather conditions may influence the use of firing operations, which may be conducted as needed in order to strengthen control lines.
