Veterans Day Salute to Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests Veteran Employees

SPRINGERVILLE, AZ, November 10, 2020 – In honor of Veterans Day, the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests (ASNFs) is expressing heartfelt thanks and salute to all ASNFs Veteran employees who have served our country in the armed forces.

“It takes a special person to give so much of their life to their country. Not only have these remarkable employees served their time in the armed forces, but they also continue to prioritize our communities’ prized forests,” said Forest Supervisor Anthony Madrid. “The ASNFs values the experience, passion, and discipline skill set that comes from serving in the military, and we are honored to have their experience enrich our workforce to serve the land. We thank them for their unrelenting dedication.”

Currently, veterans make up 28 percent of the ASNFs workforce. In addition to actively recruiting eligible veterans for multiple occupations, the ASNFs also partners with the Arizona Conservation Corps to provide training and on-the-job experience for post 9-11 era veterans interested in entering careers and gaining experience in natural resource management and wildland fire through the Veterans Fire Corps program. The training and experiences can often lead to full-time positions. The ASNFs is proud to provide opportunities such as these to the men and women who wish to continue to help their country after their service or while they are still on duty in the military Reserves or National Guard.

All ASNFs offices will be closed Wednesday, November 11th, in observance of Veteran’s Day. Normal business hours will resume Thursday. Check the weather forecast and be prepared for seasonal fluctuations. Use good judgment and basic safety precautions when hiking, fishing, or camping in the ASNFs.
