Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests offices closed in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

SPRINGERVILLE, AZ, January 14, 2021 – All Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests (ASNFs) National Forest offices and ranger stations will be closed on Monday, January 18, in commemoration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Regular business hours will resume Tuesday, January 19.


The Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday on January 18, 2021, is the 26th anniversary of the day of service that celebrates the Civil Rights leader's life and legacy. Observed each year on the third Monday in January as "a day on, not a day off," MLK Day Is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities. Despite the office closure, fire personnel, law enforcement officers, and recreation staff will be on-duty on the holiday for the safety of visitors.


If you plan to visit the ASNFs over the holiday, check the weather for the specific part of the forest you will be visiting and Know Before You Go. Forest law enforcement will be on-call during this national holiday. Regular business hours will resume Tuesday, January 19, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

"While visiting the ASNFs, please follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance and comply with state public health orders to protect yourself and others from COVID-19.


 Although the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest does not charge day-use recreation fees, the USDA Forest Service will waive $5.00 for all day-use recreation sites across the country on January 18. The waiver does not apply to overnight campgrounds, group use fees, or fees charged by concession-operated facilities.
