Teepee Creek/Lobo Mesa Area Closure in the Gravelly Mountains

Teepee Cr./Lobo Mesa Trail Closure Map

“The Madison Ranger District is temporarily closing trails and access into the Teepee Creek/Lobo Mesa area in the Gravelly Range.

Recently, numerous cattle have died, mainly for eating native larkspur, which is poisonous to cattle. Grizzly bears are in the area and numerous grizzly bears can be drawn to cattle carcasses.

The closure is intended to minimize the risk to recreationists, bird hunters and bowhunters. Bowhunters can be at a heightened risk for grizzly bear encounters. The closure will remain in effect until rescinded.

We remind all hunters to be diligent, hunt with a partner, and to carry and know how to use bear spray. For more information about Bear safety go online to https://go.usa.gov/xVBCx
