Pony, Mont., June 18, 2010 – Due to a very wet spring and heavy rains, a slide has narrowed Forest Road 160 making it unsafe for travel by full size vehicles. The road which accesses Granite Lake southwest of Pony Montana, is closed two and a half miles northwest of its junction with the Bell Lake Trailhead to wheeled motorized vehicles wider than 50 inches. Potosi Campground is not affected by this road closure.

“We discovered the slide this week and are currently working to clear the slide and do not know when the road will be open.” Commented Natural Resource Specialist Jonathan Klein, “Currently street legal ATVs, motorbikes and vehicles with a tire tread less than 50” are allowed to travel the road, however we urge visitors to use caution when traveling beyond the closure.”
