The Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest’s Grasshopper Campground located along the Pioneer Scenic Byway is receiving a much needed facelift this fall and next spring.

On September 29, Huffacker’s Construction and Excavation from Dillon began work to reconstruct the campground. Work will include: reconstructing the access road, parking lot, campsite road spurs and individual campsite living areas. Replacement of the water system will bring it up to required federal and state standards; and new accessible picnic tables, fire rings, bulletin boards and will replace the current ones. New accessible toilets were installed in 2004 and 2008.

Grasshopper campground will be closed during reconstruction and re-open by July 1, 2011.

“We are thrilled the campground will be renovated as this will provide our visitors with improved facilities to enhance their camping experience,” commented Acting Dillon District Ranger Cameron Rasor.
