Firefighters responding to wildfire near Burnt Mountain

Greybull, Wyo. (September 3, 2017) – Bighorn National Firefighters are responding to a wildfire in a remote location on the north side of Burnt Mountain in the Medicine Wheel Ranger District.

  • Location: about 4 air miles northeast of Porcupine Ranger Station
  • Fire size: 2 acres
  • Cause: suspected lightning
  • Fuels: heavy timber
  • Resources assigned: 10 firefighters, 2 single engine air tankers, 1 air attack, type 3 helicopter and additional resources have been ordered
  • Potential for spread: moderate
  • Area closures: none
  • Structures threatened: no immediate threats
  • Weather conditions: Red Flag conditions in the Bighorn National Forest today with high temperatures, low humidity, and high winds
