Contact(s): Jon Warder, 307-674-2600

Zachary Poff, Acting Powder River District Ranger for the Bighorn National Forest, has signed the Decision Notice for the Buffalo Municipal Watershed Project.  The decision notice and associated documents are available on the Bighorn National Forest website at https://www.fs.usda.gov/projects/bighorn/landmanagement/projects

Zachary stated, “The Forest Service would like to thank all of the cooperators and contributors to this project’s design and analysis over the past two years.  We look forward to implementing the project over the next several years to better protect the City of Buffalo’s municipal water supply from the possible effects of a severe wildfire.”  Approved treatments include prescribed burning, thinning and piling of small trees, aspen enhancement, commercial harvest of trees, road management, and installation of artificial beaver dams.  Combined, these actions target reducing potential sources of sediment and debris from impacting the City’s water intake system in the event of a severe wildfire occurring.
