Spearfish, SD/Sundance, WY – Crews continue to open more trails and roads that were closed in the north/northwestern Black Hills due to storm damage.

Trail 1603 on the Bearlodge District is cleared of debris and hazards and open for public use, along with the Red Lake trail system on the Northern Hills District.

Northern Hills’ Old Baldy and Rimrock trail systems remain closed to the public. The agency is using heavy machinery to open trails 1601 and 1602 (Bearlodge) and the trails will be closed until the trees are cleared.

The Forest Service is assessing and evaluating timber salvage potential.

Many hazards still remain from uprooted and snapped off trees and officials again remind the public to avoid the area until it has been cleared.
