Rapid City, SD – For public safety, Pactola Campground will close September 9, 2019 as crews install 5 new toilets.

“Along with there being loud construction noise, heavy equipment will need room to safely navigate through the campground loops during installation,” said Mena Showman, Rec and Lands Staff, Mystic Ranger District, Black Hills National Forest.

The campground and south boat launch (which is open seasonally) will remain closed for the remainder of the year. North Pactola boat ramp will remain open.

“With limited funding, only a few toilets per year are replaced Forest-wide,” said Showman. “We are happy to finally have all the old ones replaced at the popular Pactola Campground as they were in need of maintenance and had passed their life expectancy.”

Campground fees help pay for the new toilets.

Off season camping is available on the Mystic Ranger District at Sheridan Lake, Deerfield Reservoir, Black Fox and Castle Peak campgrounds.
