Recent News

  • Memorial Day Weekend: While the Carson National Forest is open and available for public use, developed recreation sites will remain closed for Memorial Day weekend. Find more information and stay up to on closures on our News & Events page.
  • Many dispersed activities on all national forests are still allowed, including hiking and dispersed camping. Please follow all social distancing guidelines and  local guidance.

Reminders

  • All developed campgrounds on the Carson National Forest are closed to overnight camping.
  • Trailheads are still accessible, but trails have not received maintenance yet. 
    • Stay safe and be aware of downed logs, low tree branches and muddy or snowy trail conditions in higher elevations.
  • All toilet facilities on the forest are locked. Be prepared to safely and responsibly address your needs.
  • Campfire and Stage 2 fire restrictions are in effect to reduce the risk of human-caused wildfire. Campfires, charcoal grills, and coal and wood burning stoves are prohibited. Only self-contained camp stoves are allowed.
  • Some picnic/day use sites are closed to the public.
  • Trash collection is suspended. Please take your garbage home.

What Is Open?

Parking facilities, trails & trailheads remain open. Some day use sites such as picnic areas and parking for access to lakes. Dispersed camping outside developed campgrounds, hiking and river activities are still allowed in compliance with public health orders and social distancing.

Developed recreation sites are closed. Sites include campgrounds, some day-use areas/picnic areas & other amenities, such as potable water stations, fire rings/grills, restrooms with flush or vaulted toilets, & trashcans/trash collection services.
