Preliminary Draft Proposed Plan Public Involvement

In cooperation with our Government Working Group (cooperating agencies) and the public, the Carson NF has developed a Version 2 of the Preliminary Draft Proposed Plan (PDPP) that includes plan components that apply to the entire forest (Forest-wide), designated areas, and management areas. Plan Components include desired conditions, objectives, standards, and guidelines.

Also being released with the PDPP are detailed descriptions of the Alternatives and a comparison table of the Alternatives that will be taken into analysis, including the no action alternative (current 1986 plan) and the proposed plan. Alternatives provide different ways the Carson NF could be managed to increase specific outcomes valued by the public other than what is described in the PDPP.

Public participation for the development of Version 2 of the Preliminary Draft Proposed Plan included a series of workshops focused on specific areas of the forest where public comments have demonstrated alternative visions for the best management approach. The workshops provided some information on draft proposed plan development process, the preliminary forest-wide plan components, and then allowed interested stakeholders to work together to come up with management options for the area that may lead to forest plan components that recognize and support various interests. Outcomes from the workshops were used to inform the development of Management Areas within Version 2 PDPP  or in development of Alternatives.

The Carson NF Preliminary Draft Proposed Plan (PDPP) and Alternative Themes were released for public feedback in July 2017.  The PDPP will include desired conditions, standards, and guidelines for the entire forest (forest-wide resources) and existing Designated Areas.

In September 2018 a series of workshops were conducted to provide an update on the plan development process and help the public understand how to formulate comments during the upcoming formal comment period so that they are most appropriate. Interested stakeholders worked with the Carson planning team to understand how the plan will be implemented once it is adopted and how the plan’s desired conditions influence specific future projects.
