SANTA FE, NM – August 9, 2017 – The Carson, Cibola and Santa Fe National Forests have extended the deadline to apply for funding under Title II of the Secure Rural Schools (SRS) and Community Self-Determination Act to August 14, 2017.  Up to $680,000 is available to tribal and local governments, small businesses, non-governmental organizations and Forest Service field units for ecosystems and land and water quality projects that benefit the three forests in Northern New Mexico.

Title II funding directs millions of federal dollars into local communities for education, law enforcement, roads and other programs.  These funds are meant to benefit habitat restoration, infrastructure and other resource objectives affecting public lands.

The Northern New Mexico Resource Advisory Committee (RAC), consisting of local citizens representing a wide range of interests and expertise, will review proposed projects and make funding recommendations to the Regional Forester for the Southwestern Region of the USDA Forest Service.

The RAC, working closely with Forest Service land managers, recommends projects to benefit forest health, fish, wildlife, soils, watersheds, and other resources; maintain, de-commission or remove roads; improve trails and other infrastructure; or control noxious weeds.  Interested applicants for Title II funds should contact the District Ranger at the Cibola, Santa Fe or Carson National Forest where the project is located prior to submitting an application.

RAC projects must be located within Taos, Sandoval, Mora, San Miguel, Rio Arriba, Torrance, McKinley or Cibola County and must demonstrate a clear benefit to at least one national forest of Northern New Mexico.

Project submission forms, application materials and instructions are available at:

Applications must be emailed, hand-delivered or postmarked by August 14, 2017. Please submit applications to the RAC staff on the national forest where the project is located:
