Carson National Forest Offices to Close June 12

Taos, NM (June 4, 2018) - For Immediate Release. All Carson National Forest offices will be closed on Tuesday, June 12, 2018, to allow all employees to attend mandatory training. This includes offices in Taos, Peñasco, Questa, Tres Piedras, El Rito, Canjilon and Bloomfield, NM.

In addition, some offices may need to close early on June 11 and open a little late on June 13. Please call ahead to make sure the office you plan on visiting is open.

As a reminder, the Carson National Forest is open but under Stage 2 fire restrictions. No campfires, charcoal grills or smoking outdoors. Propane fueled devices are allowed in a cleared area. ATVs are allowed on roads or trails that are authorized for motor vehicle use. Please do not drive off of roads or trails.

Chainsaw use is allowed but not between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. with the exception of Canjilon Lakes where there are no restrictions on chainsaw use for fuelwood removal.

The only area of the forest that is closed is the Valle Vidal Unit on the Questa Ranger District. The east side of the Valle Vidal Unit (Colfax County side) is closed as a precaution due to the Ute Park Fire which is south of the Valle Vidal. The west side of the Valle Vidal (Taos County side) is closed due to elk calving through June 30. In this area you are not allowed to leave your vehicle.
