Happy Camper

Chippewa Loop at Norway Beach

Camping is a great activity for getting out into nature, spending time with friends and family, and relaxing.  This past year was tough on campers: Norway Beach Recreation Area had a planned closure for the season due to a major water system overhaul.  Then, pandemic concerns and the resulting protocols to keep people safe led to late openings and, in some cases, early closures.  Even with these limitations, campers wanted to get out and recreate.  Campgrounds that were open saw extremely high use.

This year, with many protocols still in place, campgrounds were ready to meet the need.  All water system updates are complete at Norway Beach and campers are once again enjoying camping on the beautiful east shore of Cass Lake.  Campers in all campgrounds are continuing to enjoy some of the best recreation opportunities the state has to offer.  Thankfully, we also have some of the best volunteer campground hosts you can find.  Most of them come back year after year and provide great customer service representing the Forest Service while also keeping the sites and bathrooms clean. Without them, we  would not be able to deliver the same high level of service that our volunteers  provide.

While we are asking campers to be extra careful due to the to the continued drought and high fire danger this year , thankfully, they are still able to enjoy boating, fishing, beaches, trails; and where permitted, the evening campfires that bring people together for making memories.
