Thank you!
The Mountainair Ranger District is grateful for the hard work done by the Forest Stewards Guild Youth Corps (FSYC).
The mission of the FSYC program is to provide career training in natural resources for ages 19-25 from forest dependent communities in New Mexico that have few employment opportunities. The Forest Service provides training opportunities to crew members for job applications.
This fall on the Mountainair RD this FSYC crew prepared areas for prescribed burns and implementation, recreation site upgrades and performed trail work across the Mountainair Ranger District as well as assisting the BLM with prescribed burns in Northern New Mexico.
“The FSYC crew is essential to supporting prescribed burns from line prep to implementation. The crews also get other Forest Service educational and development opportunities while assisting other functions on the district.” Anthony Martinez - Fire Management Officer, Mountainair District.
