Cibola National Forest and National Grasslands welcome Steve Hattenbach as new Forest Supervisor

Albuquerque, NM, May 7, 2018 – Please join us in welcoming Steve Hattenbach as the new Forest Supervisor for Cibola National Forest and National Grasslands.  He has worked on a variety of environmental and natural resource issues throughout his career and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience the position.  He will begin on May 13. 

For the past three years, Steve has been the Director of Wildlife, Fish, Rare Plants, and Rangeland Management for the U.S. Forest Service Southwestern Region, and has also served as an Acting Deputy Regional Forester and the Regional Public and Legislative Affairs Director.  His experience includes 18 years of legal counsel for local, state, and federal governments.  He holds an undergraduate in Anthropology and History, a Master of Public Administration with a concentration in Natural Resource Management, and a Juris Doctorate.

Steve and his family are outdoor enthusiasts and have explored many of the state’s public lands since 1997 when they chose New Mexico as their home.  On the weekends, you are likely to find him, along with his wife and three children, recreating on one of the Cibola districts, either camping, hiking, hunting, or rock climbing.  “I am excited to work with our collaborative partners to develop the new Forest Plan,” he said, “and very happy to manage the Forest that I have called home for more than 20 years.”
