Release Date: May 14, 2018

Albuquerque, NM, May 14, 2018 – District Ranger Alvin Whitehair announced today that all fuelwood permits issued for the Mount Taylor Ranger District will be suspended immediately, due to the extreme fire danger.  This includes Tribal plant and ceremonial wood collections.

“The fire danger level continues to rise and there is no precipitation in the forecast.  I realize that this action may impact a number of people, but safety is my primary concern for all,” Whitehair said earlier today.  “It is critical that we do everything possible eliminate the potential for human-caused fires.”
