Cuarenta Fire continues to burn in Salado Canyon

 

Albuquerque, NM, September 13, 2018 – The lightning-cause Cuarenta Fire, burning southwest of Cabezone Peak, is approximately 50-75 acres in size. The fire was first reported on Sept 9th.

 

The fire is burning in Salado Canyon under steep difficult conditions in rough terrain and is being managed by a Type 4 Incident Command team. No high values are currently at risk within a 5-mile perimeter and the fire is being monitored to allow fire to safely return to the landscape for ecological benefits.

 

For travelers on U.S Route 550 and New Mexico State Route 279 the fire will be highly visible, but will not affect travel on these highways.
