Temporary Road Closures based on inclement weather conditions for the Sandia Ranger District

Albuquerque, NM, December 7, 2018 – A Temporary Closure Order (03-0675) has been issued for National Forest System Roads (NFSR): 462, 252, 12, 13, 542, 445a in effect on December 4, 2018 and shall remain in effect until May 31, 2019 or until: the Order is rescinded, whichever occurs first.

NFSRs as depicted on the attached maps Exhibit A & B, may be temporally closed by Sandia Ranger District on a case by case basis depending on present and anticipated conditions due to weather.

The purpose of this Order is to protect roads from excessive damage caused by motorized use while susceptible to such damage due to weather conditions such as snow and melt/freeze cycles and to provide for public health and safety.

Per Exhibit A & B:

Temporary road access closure to the forest may effect:

  • NFSR: 462, 252, 12, 13 & 542 (Temporary closure anticipated for Monday, December 10, 2018)

  • NFSR: 445a

Temporary closure will limit access to the Manzanita Mountains Trail System as well as most of the Sandia Ranger District dispersed camping areas.

This order does not apply to any Federal, State, or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or fire fighting force in the performance of an official duty.

Violations of this order are punishable by a fine of $5,000 for individuals or $10,000 for organizations, or by 6 months of imprisonment, or both. Title 16 USC 551, Title 18 USC 3559, 3571 and 3581.
