Albuquerque, NM (September 23, 2020) – The Cibola National Forest & National Grasslands will waive fees at most day use recreation sites on National Public Lands Day, Saturday, Sept. 26. National Public Lands Day traditionally celebrates volunteer work on public lands and the opportunity to connect to nature.

The Forest Service participates in fee-free days with other federal agencies to commemorate holidays and encourage Americans to visit their public lands.  The final fee-free day for 2020 will be Nov. 11, Veterans Day.

Fees will be waived at Cibola National Forest & National Grasslands sites that normally charge a day-use fee.  Since some recreation sites may be closing for the season, visitors to the National Forest & National Grasslands are encouraged to contact the appropriate ranger district office to determine which sites are open and will waive fees. Recreation site status is posted on the Cibola Website under the recreation activity.

If you plan to visit the Cibola NF & NGs over the weekend, please recreate responsibly by following state public health orders and Leave No Trace principles. Avoid crowded areas and park only in designated areas. Do not impede emergency access by blocking roadways, fire lanes or driveways. Check the weather forecast and be prepared for seasonal fluctuations. Use good judgment and basic safety precautions when hiking, fishing or camping.

Campfire safety and prevention is always a priority. Never leave a campfire unattended, and make sure it is out cold before leaving the area.
