Laguna Campground Temporary Closure

San Diego, CA. (January 10, 2020) - A temporary closure order has been implemented for the Mount Laguna campground beginning January 7 until March 31, 2020 as renovations and construction take place. Winter is an ideal time to implement closures due to low usage in the campground, while it was also determined to be the quickest way to expedite work with the health and safety of the public in mind.

During the closure, contractors will be conducting ground disturbing activities such as demolition and replacement of vault toilets and water system. The entire Laguna Campground Renovation Project will address the deferred maintenance of toilets, water systems, roads, and campsite amenities all while maintaining the historic character of the rustic recreation site. Campground construction has an anticipated completion date in late 2020.

When the campground reopens on April 1, the following may be impacted:

  • Water may be intermittently unavailable. Please pack enough water for consumption & for extinguishing your fire. Water will be available at other recreation sites on Mount Laguna free of cost.
  • Portable toilets will be used while bathrooms are being replaced. Accessibility to clean bathrooms throughout the campground is ensured throughout the project although campers should expect portable toilets in place of vault toilets intermittently.
  • Increased noise during construction. Construction will only occur on weekdays and users should expect that there may be increased noise disturbance. No construction will occur on weekends.
  • Closures for public safety will occur intermittently throughout areas of the campground. Please respect all posted closures to avoid injury and heavy equipment operation.

Burnt Rancheria campground will reopen on January 31 to accommodate campers affected by the closure. The campground will have no running water, so drinking water and shower facilities will not be available. Camping will be on a first-come, first-serve basis until April 1st when reservations will resume. For more information, please contact the Descanso Ranger District at 619-445-6235 or review the closure order.
