Prescribed Burning Planned for FY2024
USDA Forest Service fuels management specialists take great care and precaution while planning for environmentally important prescribed burning in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest
Highly trained USDA Forest Service fuels specialists are taking great care and precaution as they prepare to conduct environmentally important prescribed burning in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. Prescribed burning will only be conducted as closely monitored weather conditions allow and the objectives can be met.
Planning and Preparing is Essential to Safety
- Standard operating procedures are followed to authorize prescribed burns. These procedures include burn plan development and coordination, site preparation, public notifications, weather, and forecast monitoring and validation.
- The public will be notified about planned and active prescribed burns through social media on Facebook; and Twitter/X: @CNNF002. Maps and additional details are also available through district offices.
Benefits of Prescribed Burning
- Prescribed burning is one method that the USDA Forest Service uses to reduce hazardous fuels and maintain our ecosystem within our National Forests and Grasslands. Applying prescribed burns on the land at the right place, at the right time, under the right conditions benefits the land and the surrounding communities.
- Prescribed burning can assist with wildland fire mitigation. Prescribed burns can reduce thick, overgrown vegetation and dead/downed trees that can lead to uncontrolled wildland fires.
2024 Potential Summer/Fall Burn Units
These are units that may be burned late this summer and through the fall, if conditions allow and adequate staffing is available.
