FLAGSTAFF, Ariz., Jan. 30, 2019, For Immediate Release — The timber thinning contract for the Flagstaff Watershed Protection Project in the Dry Lake Hills along Schultz Creek and the base of Mount Elden was terminated as incomplete on Dec. 31 and will be advertised again as soon as possible.

The contractor was only able to harvest 20 of the 642 acres and therefore the contract was not extended and was terminated.

The Forest Service is following all necessary procedures to offer the contract again and anticipates it will be advertised within the next 60 days. The Flagstaff Watershed Protection Project continues to be a top priority for the Coconino National Forest.

Contract advertisement for Phase II, the larger portion of the project for thinning steeper slopes, is expected to go out for bid early this summer.
