Contact(s): Coconino National Forest, (928) 282-4119

SEDONA, Ariz., April 8, 2019, For Immediate Release — Coconino National Forest firefighters are planning to take advantage of favorable weather conditions this week for prescribed burn operations, beginning as early as Tuesday.

This week’s broadcast prescribed burns will target up to 1,800 acres on the Red Rock Ranger District and an additional 300 acres of pile burns on the eastern side of the Mogollon Rim Ranger District. The increased wind speed is a benefit for these planned burns, which are a part of the plan to reduce hazardous fuels and improve forest health on the Coconino National Forest.

Prescribed burns are always dependent upon weather and wind conditions, as well as approval from Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ).
