In accordance with the  2015 National Defense Authorization Act (Public Law 113-291, Section 2836), the Secretary of Agriculture transferred administrative jurisdiction of 282 acres, where Camp Frank D. Merrill is located in Lumpkin County, Georgia, to the Secretary of the Army.  In exchange, the Secretary of the Army transferred administrative jurisdiction to the Secretary of Agriculture of approximately ten acres adjacent to Lake Lanier in Gainesville, Georgia, which had been administered by the Army Corps of Engineers.

  • The Department of Defense, through the Army Corps of Engineers, transferred jurisdiction to the ten acre parcel, located at 372 Dunlap Landing Road, Gainesville, GA to the United States Forest Service in 2015.
  • The joint transfer of property was mandated by the Carl Levin and Howard P. “Buck” McKeon National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2015 (S. 1847, Section 2836).
  • The Act allowed the Dunlap Landing property to be sold and the proceeds of a sale to be retained in an account under Public Law 90-171, commonly known as The Sisk Act.
  • These funds are to be retained for the future acquisition of other land which is located within the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest boundaries.
  • The sale of the property is being managed by the General Services Administration.
  • Further information regarding the sale of the property can be obtained by contacting the GSA at 404-831-8612.
