Early Firewood Sale - Palisades Ranger District

Alpine, Blowout and McCoy Upper and Lower Campgrounds are having an early firewood sale.  The Forest Service has felled trees that have been killed by the pine beetle or were deemed to be hazard trees.  These down trees are available for firewood.  Permits will terminate on July 1, 2012 regardless of whether any product is removed.  Quantities are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

If you want to gather firewood, permits are available at the Palisades Ranger District at 3659 E Ririe Highway, Idaho Falls, ID starting on May 9, 2012.  If you have additional questions, please contact Heather or Randy at (208) 523-1412.  Some of the allowed and prohibited actions allowed during this sale are as follows:


• Cut/gather firewood only in designated area as shown on map

• Cut only trees that have been previously felled on the ground

• Species includes Lodge pole pine, Sub alpine fir, Quaking Aspen (both dead and green)

• ATV's maybe used to drag logs to roadways

• Winches will be allowed to retrieve as long as no other tree damage occurs

• Firewood length of 7 feet and under


• Falling of trees (dead or green trees) under this permit,

• Cutting of brush and/or young trees to provide access to retrieve firewood,

• Joyriding of ATV's,

• Use of tractors, small equipment, or horses.

• Firewood length greater than 7 feet

• Do not block roadways and/or flow of traffic through campground or impede access to campsites
