Expect Temporary Closures and Delays

Contact(s): Marna Daley, 406-587-6703

Bozeman, MTBeginning Tuesday, November 27 around 4:00 a.m. the public can anticipate some closures and delays on Hyalite Road for plowing.  The road is extremely slick and rutted.  Users can expect some closures or temporary delays through mid-day on Tuesday afternoon.

“Gallatin County will have a road grader and a plow working to remove the ice and ruts that have formed,” said Corey Lewellen, Bozeman District Ranger.  “The Forest Service will staff the gate at the base of Hyalite Canyon and stop traffic as needed while equipment is working.”

The road is plowed through a partnership with the Friends of Hyalite, Gallatin County, and the Custer Gallatin National Forest.  Hyalite Canyon is one of the most popular winter recreation destinations in the state of Montana and it is a component of Bozeman’s municipal watershed.  Plowing the road from the base of Hyalite Canyon to the Grotto Falls Trailhead provides for public safety and winter access.
