Beartooth Ranger District West Rosebud Road Closure

Contact(s): Marna Daley, 406-587-6703

Red Lodge, MT – The West Rosebud Road on the Beartooth Ranger District (Forest Road #2072) leading to the Mystic Lake Trailhead is closed due to unsafe road conditions at the Chicken Creek Bridge.  The closure begins at the West Rosebud Lake Inlet parking Lot and extends approximately one mile to the Mystic lake Hydroelectric Power Plant at the end of the road.

New springs have surfaced around the Chicken Creek Bridge creating an ice flow over the road and making it unsafe for vehicles to cross.  The closest public parking is at the West Rosebud lake parking lot for those wishing to access the West Rosebud drainage.  Do not park on the road or block the Chicken Creek Bridge gate which is still needed for emergency access. The closure is expected to remain in place until warmer spring weather melts the ice flow.

“We ask the public to help us by honoring this closure at the West Rosebud Lake Inlet Parking lot where vehicles can safely turn around.  NorthWestern Energy will have limited access to the Mystic Lake Hydro-electric power plant during this closure.” said Ken Coffin, District Ranger.
