Heavy Snow Conditions Affecting Road Openings on Sioux Ranger District

Camp Crook, SD…  This winter’s heavy snow conditions continue making road conditions impassable on the Sioux Ranger District.   Forest Service managers are advising everyone, especially turkey hunters to wait until the end of April before trying to access most areas to give additional time for snow to melt and the roads to dry out.

“The snow conditions from this winter are making roads inaccessible across the District,” said Kurt Hansen, Sioux District Ranger.  “On some roads large deep drifts are blocking access while others are still snow covered or incredibly wet and muddy.”

The Camp Crook area continues receiving additional moisture, including snow.  When visiting the area please be prepared for rapidly changing weather conditions, let someone know where you are going and when you expect to return, and prepare to spend the night if you have to.
