Sheyenne River Water Trail Development

The Sheyenne River Cooperative Water Trail is an innovative project offering a unique recreational opportunity and enhanced recreational access that helps users experience Legendary North Dakota ( ). The water trail effectively responds to one of the primary needs identified in the ND State Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan and connects the public to the outdoors. The water trail was developed through valuable partnerships between USDA Forest Service, ND Game and Fish, ND Parks and Recreation, the Ransom County Park Board, Ransom County County Commission, Ransom County Highway Department, Doosan Bobcat, US Army Corps of Engineers, and the North Dakota Industrial Commission. The project was made possible by a grant from the North Dakota Outdoor Heritage Fund. Spanning approximately 16.5 river miles, the water trail connects three public land ownerships to provide a unique semi-primitive water trail experience. The water trail includes four put in/take out locations located on county, state and NFS lands as well as four dispersed camping locations.
