El Yunque National Forest Will Remain Closed Until Further Notice After the Passing of Hurricane Irma

(September 9, 2017) (Rio Grande, PR) El Yunque National Forest will remain closed to the public until further notice following the effects of Hurricane Irma.  Currently access to the Forest is unsafe due to downed trees and power lines.  Forest Service crews and cooperators are beginning the assessment of damages to Forest facilities and resources to begin cleanup operations.  Public safety is most important and public access will not be allowed into the Forest until it has been determined to be safe.

The public is advised to monitor weather updates and media advisories as to when the Forest will re-open or follow the Forest Twitter page at: www.twitter.com/elyunquenf .
