Fremont Land and Resource Management Plan Amendment 12

The Fremont National Forest Land and Resource Management Plan Amendment 12

This amendment was addressed in the Upper Thomas Creek Ecosystem Management Project Environmental Assessment and Decision Notice (08/06/1998). The following is excerpted from the Decision Notice:

"I plan to implement at this time the recommendation from the ID team to change the land management allocation of thirteen stands from Management area 5 (Timber and Range Production Emphasis) to Management Areas 3 and 14 (Old-growth Habitat Emphasis). Stands 4, 434 and 435, totalling 121 acres, are recommended for removal from MA 5 to MA 3 due to poor site productivity, low volume and costly road building access to treat these stands. Stands 3, 13, 14, 296, 297, 301, 303, 304, 305 and 307, totalling 410 acres, are recommended for removal from MA 5 to MA 14 due to costly road building access and a difficult logability to treat these stands. If approved, 531 acres would be added to old-growth habitat within the Upper Thomas Creek watershed."
