LAKEVIEW, Ore. – Approximately 1 mile of Forest Road 4017 on the Lakeview Ranger District of the Fremont-Winema National Forest will be closed starting at noon today for bridge work.

The road is in the Yocum Valley area, southeast of Dog Lake.

Two detours are available.  The first, from Dog Lake, is to take Forest Road 4017 to Forest Road 3752 and then Forest Road 3940.  Alternately, Forest Road 4017 to Forest Road 3752 and then Forest Road 4017-018 can be used.

Starting as early as this week, contractors will be removing non-functioning culverts and replacing them with a bridge.  This work will improve conditions for native fish populations in the Willow Creek drainage.

While the work is going on, the road will be impassible.

“We appreciate the public’s cooperation this summer as we work on this important project.  Fortunately, there are plenty of alternate routes providing access to the general area,” said Acting Recreation, Engineering, Archaeology, Lands and Minerals Staff Officer Catherine Callaghan.

The closure is formally referenced as Order Number 06-02-02-18-02 and is in effect until November 30, 2018, or until the project is completed, whichever occurs first.

Violations of the closure order are punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment of not more than 6 months or both.
