Forest Roads 99 and 26 Closed for Winter Season

Vancouver, WA – Forest Roads 99 and 26, on the east side of Mount St. Helens, will close for the winter season on Thursday, December 4, 2014. Forest Road 99 will be gated at its junction with Forest Road 25. Forest Road 26 will be gated at MP 12.3 before Ryan Lake. Forest Road 25 is currently open.

December 1 marks the beginning of winter closures for several Forest Service roads on the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. Please check the Motor Vehicle Use Map (MVUM) on our website for more information. You can also obtain a free hard copy of the MVUM at Gifford Pinchot offices.

Winter weather in the forest can change rapidly. Most forest roads are not maintained for winter driving. Traction devices and a shovel are recommended, as is extra food, drinking water, winter clothing, blankets, a flashlight, and first aid kit.
