Filming Permit Requirements
General Restrictions and Requirements
The following requirements must be met when engaging in permitted commercial still photography and filming:
- No alteration to trees, vegetation or natural environment, including digging, moving rocks, or ground disturbance, is allowed.
- No pyrotechnics or exceedingly loud noises, such as music, explosions, or motors, are allowed.
- All crews and actors must yield to other forest users whenever possible. The public may not be restricted from an area for more than 15 minutes.
- Filming or staging on National Forest System land will generally be allowed from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Hours may be further restricted at certain dates or specific locations.
- All litter must be disposed of properly. All signs of use must be removed.
- No cigarette use is allowed off of paved surfaces.
- Parking is limited to established parking areas only, and public roads must not be blocked.
- Vehicles may be required to display a valid Northwest Forest Pass. These passes can be purchased on site or through Discover Your Northwest.
- The permit holder may be required to have a Forest Service representative on site during the filming or photography shoot.
- A copy of the special use permit must be on hand during filming.

This exhibit is attached to and made a part of the Special Use Permit
- Brief Descriptions of Activity: Includes dates, crew size, locations, type of activity.
- All parties must travel on the established route at all times, off trail/road foot travel is only authorized when escorted by Forest Service personnel.
- Must not damage or remove any natural feature or other property of the United States. Removing, digging, excavating, disturbing, injuring, destroying or in any way damaging an historic or archaeological resource, site, artifact or property is prohibited.
- Must notify Forest Service Contact, or Peter Frenzen, Monument Public Affairs officer of any proposed schedule changes or location changes.
- Is not to interfere with the flow of vehicle or pedestrian traffic, exclusive use is not provided by this permit.
- All internal combustion engines will be equipped with Forest Service approved spark arresters and all vehicles must have approved mufflers.
- Prior to filming, written authorization must be obtained for the use of any fire related activities. The holder may be required to carry adequate water and shovels to extinguish any fires associated with filming.
- Acknowledges this permit authorizes activities on National Forest System lands only. Permission to film on non-Federal lands is unauthorized under this permit.
- Acknowledges this permit does not authorize use within Wilderness.
- Agrees to pay the permit fee for filming and cost recovery fee for processing and monitoring in advance. These fees are due prior to the start date of the permit. If more days of filming are needed, an additional bill will be sent for payment. Any part of a day is considered one full day.
- Agrees to have a valid Northwest Forest Pass, or lnter-Agency Recreation pass for each vehicle when stopping at all day use fee sites along authorized route, or purchase a valid Monument Pass for Johnston Ridge Observatory.
- Must carry a copy of this permit at all times.
- Vehicles must drive single file and follow vehicle traffic laws.
- Permit holder must obey all Federal, State, and County laws.
- If a Forest Service representative is requested for a filmed interview, the only form that they are allowed to sign is the enclosed ''Talent Release Form."
- Production must bring toilet facilities with them or use existing facilities.
- No drones, Unmanned Aircraft Systems, or other types of aircraft may take off or land from anywhere on the Monument. Aircraft must maintain an altitude of 500-ft above ground level.
- The Permit may be amended with advanced notice to include additional days or people. Please contact the Forest Service contact to inform her of location or schedule changes to accommodate this request.
