Campground Hosts

Picture of Paradise Creek CampgroundHost duties and locations vary by campground. These volunteer positions generally require a minimum of two weeks.

A Campground Host is a Forest Service Volunteer who agrees to spend all or part of a summer living in a campground. Hosts assist the Forest Service in managing campgrounds. They play an active role in the care of the campground, carrying out such duties as litter pickup, routine restroom upkeep, and general campground cleaning. Hosts are provided with a free campsite, an identifying sign, training materials, and information brochures for public distribution. Laundry facilities are nearby. Reimbursement for propane will be provided.

Attitude is perhaps the most important qualification for being a good campground host! Other qualifications include an interest in the outdoors and a like of people, since visitors will be coming to you for advice on places to go, where to find services, and with problems that might arise in the campground. Liking people, and wanting to help, not only affects the pleasure of campground users, but also enjoyment of being a host.

ExplorUS is currently managing many campgrounds under a special use permit at Gifford Pinchot National Forest.
