Gila National Forest Camp Crew Recruitment Meeting scheduled for April 12 & April 17

Silver City, NM, April 5, 2018—For Immediate Release.  The Gila National Forest is looking for high school students, ages 17 and older, who are interested in a “call-when-needed” summer job that will provide an environment to learn about Fire Management and the Forest Service.

This season, the Gila NF hopes to sponsor up to five 10-member crews who would respond to and help with manual labor tasks in a fire camp setting and provide assistance to fire management teams with the logistics of camp set-up and maintenance.

There will be two recruitment meetings, April 12 or April 17, both at 7:00 p.m. Both will be held at the Grant County Veterans Memorial Business and Convention Center, located at 3031 US Hwy 180, Silver City, NM. Applicants must attend one of the meetings. All applicants must bring a pen, two (2) legal forms of identification and bank account information (to include routing and account numbers.)  All crew members must be 17 years of age by June 1, 2018 and still enrolled in high school. Spring 2018 graduates will be allowed to apply.

Information about recruitments to participate in the program will be shared at the meetings and, once the selection process is completed more information about training will be shared with the participant.
