Bench Backs Stolen from Catwalk National Recreation Trail
Release Date: Jan 12, 2012
Silver City, NM; January 12, 2012--Two decorative bench backs, created by a local company, were stolen last Friday from the Catwalk National Recreational Trail (CNRT). The bench backs were part of the 2002 project to make the CNRT more accessible to people with disabilities.
As of Tuesday, January 10, 2012, no one has been implicated in the case and the Catron County Sheriff’s Department has no leads.
Pat Morrison, District Ranger for the Glenwood Ranger District, said she was disappointed that someone would steal from the community and hopes that whoever stole the bench backs is caught and prosecuted.
“I’m appalled and disgusted that someone would go to the trouble of dismantling and stealing parts of a public bench for personal gain,” said Morrison.
Wendy Peralta, who works at the Glenwood Trading Post, said that she was upset that someone had stolen the bench backs and said, “I think it’s pitiful.”
