Site Fee Updates for 2018

Texas Falls Pavilion is one of the sites receiving fee updates in 2018.

 

The Green Mountain and Finger Lakes National Forests (GMFL) have received approval to update fees at certain campgrounds and day-use areas across each Forest. The new rates are effective Friday, May 25, 2018.

The purpose of the new and increased fees are to improve the amenities to provide a memorable recreation experience for everyone who visits the GMFL.

Green Mountain National Forest Sites with Updated Fees

The updated fees for sites impacted on the Green Mountain National Forest are listed below by site, along with the planned site improvements.

Hapgood Pond Recreation Areas -

  • Fee Updates: Overnight camping fee increased fee from $10.00 to $20.00. Reservation required through Rec.gov. Day use fee increased from $4.00 to $5.00. Pavilion rental fees increased from $25.00 to $50.00. Reservation required through Rec.gov.
  • New improvements: New water system repairs; dredge the pond for better swimming; repair the water tank; built an accessible trail bridge; adding new informational kiosks, and interpretive signs

Grout Pond Recreation Areas

  • Fee Updates: New camping fee of $16.00 per night. Reservation required through recreation.gov.
  • New improvements: Adding trash containers; Bear-proof dumpsters; access road; new toilets; boat launch area; two group use sites; picnic tables; compost boardwalks; new fire rings; improved trail network; informational kiosks, and interpretive signs

Moosalamoo Campground

  • Fee Updates: Camping fee increased from $10.00 to $15.00.
  • New improvements: Adding a host site to improve security; new picnic tables; new accessible fire rings; new landscaping; replacing timber stairs; new group use site, and playground area

Chittenden Brook Campground

  • Fee Update: Increased from $10.00 to $15.00
  • New improvements: Adding a host site to improve security; new accessible fire rings; improving surrounding trail network; new group use site; new picnic tables; informational kiosks, and interpretive signing

Silver Lake Campground

  • Fee Update: New Fee from $0.00 to $10.00
  • New improvements: Adding new grills; adding new picnic tables; two vault toilets; adding a host site to improve security; new accessible fire rings; improving trail network; adding trash containers; informational kiosks, and interpretive signing

Texas Falls Day Use Area

  • Fee Update: Pavilion rental has new flat fee per number of people in group 1- 20 people = $20.00 21- 40 people = $40.00. Reservation required through Recrectaion.gov.
  • New improvements: Adding new grills at pavilion; new pavilion roof; adding a vault toilet; improving informational kiosks; adding interpretive signing; improve accessibility of site; improve trail system; complete a design for an observation overlook, and building the observation overlook.

Finger Lakes National Forest Sites with Updated Fees

The updated fees for sites impacted on the Finger Lakes National Forest are listed below by site, along with the planned site improvements.

Blueberry Patch Campground

  • Fee Updates: Increased from $10.00 to $15.00
  • New improvements: New gravel accessible tent pads; adding accessible fire rings and picnic tables; adding trash containers; informational kiosks, and interpretive signing

Potomac Group Campground and Pavilion

  • Fee Updates: Changed to a flat fee per number of people in the group. 1- 20 people = $20.00. 21- 40 people = $40.00. Reservation required through Rec.gov 4 days prior reserved date.
  • New improvements: Adding accessible fire rings and picnic tables; improving informational kiosks, new large grills at pavilion, new pavilion roof, new group fire ring with benches

Backbone Horse Campground

  • Fee Updates: Phase-in fees over the next two years. 2018 - Camping with one horse trailerwill be $10.00. 2019 Camping with one horse trailer will be $15.00.

Backbone Horse Day Use Area

  • Fee Updates: $5.00 for a day ride with one horse trailer
  • New improvements: New gravel on access road; adding accessible fire rings and picnic tables; adding trash containers; informational kiosks, and interpretive signing

All areas are maintained by the Forest Service employees and volunteers. The new fees and fee increases reflect the services and amenities offered and are more comparable to similar public and private sites in their respective areas. These increases have completed Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act process and have had public input and been approved by the Eastern Region Recreation Resource Advisory Committee.
