Public Participation - Forest Plan Revision
A successful planning process depends on public participation. Your input matters.
On August 13, 2021, the GMUG published the draft Forest Plan and draft Environmental Impact Statement. This started a comment period where you could voice your support and concerns with the plan and help inform the final product. The comment period closed on November 26, 2021. We received approximately 10,000 comments!
During the comment period, the GMUG National Forests, in partnership with the National Forest Foundation and area counties, hosted a series of virtual webinars and open houses to provide an orientation to the draft plan and to facilitate community conversations about the path forward. Dates, links and recordings for those events are located here.
Now in August 2023, we’ve published the final Plan and final Environmental Impact Statement and begun the 60-day objection period in which previous commenters can file objections - see information here for webinars and open houses the week of September 5, as well as instructions for filing objections.
Overall Strategy:
With the help of the Colorado Forest Restoration Institute, we started in 2016 by asking you how we should engage the public. Then we incorporated your ideas into our Public Participation Strategy.
