The final revised plan was published in 2024 after a seven-year effort. However, the history of planning on the GMUG is extensive.

In 2006, the GMUG put a multi-year plan revision effort on hold until the Colorado Roadless Areas were defined (completed 2012) and a final planning rule was established for the Forest Service (completed 2012). The GMUG’s prior planning effort was extensive, and the public contributed: between February 2002 and November 2003, 42 public meetings were held throughout the GMUG, attended by 1035 individuals. The planning team for the 2024 revised plan started with this as a springboard for the current process, but incorporated new science, requirements, and your input.
