Norwood, CO, April 14, 2017 – The Norwood Ranger District of the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison National Forests is inviting those interested in the future management of the Alta Lakes area to attend a stakeholder meeting from 4:00 – 6:00 pm on April 26, 2017, at San Miguel County’s Miramonte meeting room (located on the second floor at 333 West Colorado Avenue, in Telluride).
The Alta Lakes Recreation Area is located about ten miles southwest of Telluride and includes the lands surrounding Alta Lakes. The growing amount of recreation use in the area is impacting roads, trails and vegetation, while raising concerns about a lack of adequate sanitation, parking, travel management and adequate signing.
The Forest Service is forming a stakeholder group whose purpose will be to help create a master plan for the Alta Lakes area. “We welcome anyone with an interest in the Alta Lakes area to help us craft a vision for its future management” said Matt Zumstein, Norwood District Ranger.
