Forest Service to host public meeting on Subregional Watershed Environmental Assessment

Roanoke, Va., July 2, 2024 - The Forest Service's Southern Appalachian Subregion, comprised of the George Washington and Jefferson National Forest in Virginia and West Virginia, the Chattahoochee – Oconee National Forest in Georgia, the Cherokee National Forest in Tennessee, and the National Forests of North Carolina will host a virtual public meeting on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at 3:00 EST about watershed resiliency projects. Participants will learn about the forthcoming Watershed Resiliency Environmental Assessment, the project process the Forest Service may pursue, and potential proposed actions. 

The public is invited to a virtual public meeting to learn more about the proposed environmental assessment for the project and how to submit comments in the 30-day scoping period concluding on July 31, 2024. The Subregion National Forests in Virginia, West Virginia, Georgia, Tennessee, and North Carolina will participate in the project that seeks to increase the pace and scale of watershed resiliency work. Forest Service infrastructure and watershed resiliency is the proposed focus of the initiative. Using a variety of infrastructure and restoration strategies, proposed work will improve watershed conditions, water quality, and aquatic habitat connectivity.
