Forest Service to conduct controlled burn in the Catback Mountain Area Today, Page Co, VA

Location:  This 2,699 acre burn is located in the Catback Mountain Area along the northern end of Crisman Hollow Road in Page County, Virginia. 

Date and Time:  The Forest Service will begin igniting this burn today. After ignition, the area may continue to burn and smoke may be visible for a week or more. We will continue to monitor the area. 

Objective: The controlled burn will improve important wildlife habitat, restore natural ecosystems, and promote a healthy diversity of plant species. 

Additional Information:  Firefighter and public safety is our number one priority.

The following road will be temporarily closed for the duration of the burn:  
FSR 274 – Crisman Hollow Road 
            
The following trails will be temporarily closed for the duration of the burn:  
#410 - Massanutten Connector Trail; #555, Scothorn; #409 - Gap Trail; and sections of #408 - Massanutten National Recreation Trail adjacent to the burn area, this includes the Strickler Knob Area.
