Recreation sites open for visitors on the Glenwood-Pedlar Ranger District

Natural Bridge Station, Va., March 26, 2021— USDA Forest Service campgrounds, ATV trails, and day use areas are open to visitors or will be opening soon for the summer recreation season. The Glenwood-Pedlar Ranger District provides access to recreation sites in Amherst, Augusta, Bedford, Botetourt, Nelson, and Rockbridge Counties. The following schedule outlines the season opening dates:

Cave Mountain Lake Campground |
Will open April 1 to campers with reservations only. No first come/first served camping at this time. |
Cave Mountain Lake Day Use |
Will open to campers with reservations April 1 with limited facilities. Youth (15 and under) will be allowed to fish with accompanying adults, day use fee of $8 will apply. The main bathhouse will not be available, but a restroom facility will be provided near the picnic shelter. |
Colon Hollow Shelter Campground |
Open year round. |
Crabtree Falls Day Use Area |
Open year round. Restrooms will open April 1. |
Crabtree Falls Meadow |
Open year round. Restrooms will open May 15. |
Day Creek Day Use Area |
Open year round. Restroom is open. |
Hopper Creek Campground |
Open to campers with reservations only. No first come/first served camping at this time. |
Locher Tract |
Open year round. Restrooms will open May 15. |
North Creek Campground |
Will open April 1. |
Oronoco Campground |
Anticipate opening April 15. Closed due to bridge replacement project. |
Sherando Lake Campground |
Will open April 1 to campers with reservations only. No first come/first served camping at this time. |
Sherando Lake Day Use |
Will open April 1 to campground users only. Will open May 15 to day visitors, limited capacity. Site is open to walk-in users. |
Sherando Lake Group Campground |
Will open April 1 to campers with reservations only. Three group sites are available. No first come/first served camping at this time. |
