Outfitter & Guide Special Use Permit on Rocky Mountain Ranger District

Beginning Wednesday, August 15th the Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest will be soliciting applications from interested parties to provide outfitter and guide services on the Rocky Mountain Ranger District (RMRD). The district intends to authorize service days for existing permits and/or authorize new special use permits that will allow individuals or organizations to conduct commercial outfitter-guide services to the general public on a recurring basis within the specifically-described National Forest System lands on the RMRD. Application packets—including the permit, an operating plan, a business plan, and a financial statement—will be accepted until close-of-business on **NEW DEADLINE** Friday, November 16, 2018.

All parties will be required to complete and submit an application packet. Incomplete application packets, or packets received later than November 16, 2018, will  not be considered.

Interested individuals or organizations can submit an application for one or both of the following:

  • 250 service days for summer and fall outfitting and guiding in the Badger Two–Medicine area, with a reserved site at Lonesome Creek. Reserved period of use at Lonesome Creek Camp is: 9/1-11/30. Thirty AUMs of grazing for pack and saddle stock are available at this site.

  • 150 service days for fall hunting and 40 summer use days for outfitting and guiding in the Birch Creek addition to the Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex, with a reserved site at Circus Creek. Reserved period of use at Circus Creek Camp is: 7/1-12/1. Twelve AUMs of grazing are available for pack and saddle stock at this site.

The final decision and selection is at the sole discretion of the Authorized Officer, which for this process is the District Ranger for the RMRD. The Forest Service reserves the right to reject any or all applications if the applications do not best serve the needs of the public.
