Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest still accepting outfitter and guide applications

HELENA, Mont. (December 6, 2019) – The Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest is currently soliciting applications from interested outfitters and guides to provide services on National Forest System lands on the Belt Creek–White Sulphur Springs and the Judith–Musselshell ranger districts. The Forest Service intends to authorize three new special use permits for outfitters and guides providing a variety of services in the area, including snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and skiing. The deadline to apply for these permits is Jan. 31, 2020.

Applications are being accepted for winter snowmobile outfitting and guiding in the Little Belt and Castle mountain ranges; for backcountry skiing, touring, snowshoeing, and winter outfitting and guiding in the Little Belt, Little Snowy, Big Snowy, Highwood, Castle, and Crazy mountain ranges; and for non-consumptive summer/fall outfitting and guiding (excluding hunting and fishing, and excluding mountain biking in the Big Snowy Mountains) in the Little Belt, Little Snowy, Big Snowy, Highwood, Castle, and Crazy mountain ranges.

Specific details about these outfitter and guide opportunities are available in the “prospectus.” This document outlines available outfitter and guide opportunities, important information for the applicant, and an application packet for interested parties to fill out and return to the Forest Service. The prospectus is available online at bit.ly/HLC-OutfitterGuide.

Application packets should be mailed by Jan. 31, 2020 to the following address: Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest, ATTN: Rory Glueckert, 2880 Skyway Dr., Helena, MT 59602. The final decision on the selection of one or more applicants, the number of service days authorized, and whether to allow use by more than one operator is at the sole discretion of the Authorized Officer.

Questions about these outfitter and guide opportunities or how to apply for a permit can be directed to Rory Glueckert, Recreation Program Manager (406-449-5201), Ron Wiseman, Judith–Musselshell District Ranger (406-566-2292); or Carol Hatfield, Belt Creek–White Sulphur Springs District Ranger (406-547-3361).
